Andrew Blakey FCA BA(Hons) - Senior Accounts Manager
Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1991 with a small firm in York and has worked in the York and Leeds area throughout. In the 25 years since qualifying, Andrew has a wide experience at senior levels to audit, accounting, and taxation (both corporate and personal). His experience is in sectors as varied as Solicitors, Farming, Manufacturing, Consultancy, and Wholesaling. Andrew gained a degree at Humberside Polytechnic in Accounts and Financial Management in 1986, before joining the firm in York to train with. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW). Andrew has extensive knowledge of the taxation and required reporting requirements for owner-managed business regardless of their legal structure. His approach to advise on “commercial lead tax planning” to his clients – how to save tax but also continue to develop your business.
He feels that business need different types of advice during the lifespan and provides accordingly. The changes to the taxation rules on dividends and the reporting requirement for limited companies will impact many business and need to be planned for.
Andrew is involved in local football, being an ex-football referee. When the weather is better, Andrew spends a lot of time on courses (golf) trying to develop his skills, but failing badly.
Holly Hird - Administration Manager
Holly joined us as Administration Manager from an international insurance company and has experience in office administration and customer service. Holly exercises an expansive role, which includes responsibility for client liaison, Company Secretarial duties, practice compliance and supporting the team.
Outside work Holly enjoys walking her dog and is a keen horse rider.
James Hilton-Scott MAAT – Trainee Accountant
James previously worked for a subsidiary of the University of York as a finance clerk where he secured experience of finance administration and customer service. James is a qualified Accounting Technician (AAT) and is looking forward to working towards his Chartered Accountancy qualification at Ian Walker & Co.
In his spare time James is an avid American Football Fan and enjoys painting miniatures.
Daniel Jamieson MAAT – Accounts Senior
Daniel has worked in accountancy practice since 1999 and qualified for the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) in 2003. Daniel has experience in various aspects of accountancy which includes preparation of statutory accounts, personal and corporate taxation, VAT and payroll. Daniel keeps himself up to date with the various tax legislation by attending CPD courses, duly backed by both HMRC and the various Accountancy bodies.
Outside of work Daniel likes to keep himself busy, this includes carrying out DIY, leisurely cycling, playing and watching football.
Samuel Baines - Trainee Accountant
After graduating with a maths degree from The University of York in 2011, Samuel returned to the South of England to start his career in accountancy. However only a year later, he realised that the North really is better, and so returned to live and work in York. Samuel is currently working towards his Chartered Accountancy qualification and has experience in many areas of accountancy and taxation; including company accounts, corporation tax and VAT. Samuel enjoys meeting new clients and is always happy to impart advice regarding bookkeeping, accountancy, taxation and matters allied to managing small business.
In his spare time Samuel plays the oboe in amateur orchestras whilst also enjoying running and mountaineering.”
Jeff White FMAAT – Senior Accounts Manager
Jeff has over 40 years’ experience in the accountancy profession, reporting for corporates, unincorporated businesses, landlords and individual’s alike.
From his time in industry he is well aware of the problems faced by small and medium sized enterprises. Since returning to practice Jeff has advised many start-up and fledgling businesses through to periods of growth and expansion. Jeff’s expertise extends to financial and tax reporting for Corporates, incorporated businesses and individual’s alike.
Outside the office Jeff enjoys keeping fit and travelling, although since he became a father of twins in 2010 his leisure time seems to have reduced somewhat!
David King ACA – Tax Manager
David trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with an alternate local accountancy practice. Following an initial period of working in Audit and Accounts and gaining a valuable grounding in all accounting aspects, David was instrumental in setting up a dedicated Tax Department at the firm. He subsequently built up over 25 years' experience in assisting and advising clients in all aspects of taxation, with a particular specialism in personal tax matters.
As part of David’s tax consultancy business he manages the Personal Tax work of the practice in addition to assisting our Accounts team in both tax compliance and planning areas. David also leads the firm in exchanges with HM Revenue & Customs over tax enquiries into client’s affairs and reporting; advising the client throughout and the securing of satisfactory outcomes with the tax authorities.
Away from the office David is a keen photographer and also enjoys spending time watching wildlife and walking in the Yorkshire countryside.
Laura Bailey FIAB – Practice & BSU Manager
After working in the engineering sector for many years, and whilst bringing up three children, Laura qualified as a Book Keeper and became a Fellow of the International Association of Book Keepers in 2000.
Since 2003 Laura has worked for a number of local accountancy firms in the York area, working mainly in Payroll, VAT and bookkeeping departments, duly garnering extensive experience and knowledge in these fields.
Away from work, Laura enjoys the great outdoors including abseiling, zorbing and also has a keen interest in crime and detection.
Lisa Footman - Administration Assistant
Lisa joined us in 2017 to pursue a career in administration, accountancy and finance. Lisa is part qualified AAT and intends to continue studies to become fully qualified. Lisa takes responsibility for office correspondence and credit control, in addition to her client facing duties.
Away from work Lisa enjoys walking, shopping and spending time with her husband and young daughter.
Sarah Marron MAAT - Accounts Senior
Sarah historically worked in a Leeds Accountancy practice before moving back to York to join Ian Walker & Co. Sarah completed her AAT in 2014 and works in bookkeeping, VAT, year-end accounts and opening tax duties.
In her spare time Sarah enjoys spending time with family and friends, while also keeping fit at the gym, and is hoping to complete a half marathon this year.
